South Brunswick is a township in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. As of the 2020 United States Census, the township's population was 46,433, reflecting an increase of 8,376 from the 38,057 counted in the 2000 Census. South Brunswick is part of the New York metropolitan area.

South Brunswick was incorporated as a township by an act of the New Jersey Legislature on February 28, 1798, as part of Middlesex County. Portions of the township were taken to form Cranbury Township (as of March 7, 1872) and Plainsboro Township (on April 1, 1919). The township's name derives from King's Bridge, a crossing of the Millstone River, which was the King's highway during the American Revolutionary War.

The history of South Brunswick dates back to the 17th century when it was inhabited by the Lenape Native Americans. European settlers began arriving in the early 18th century and the town was established in 1798. Agriculture was a mainstay of the local economy for centuries, along with small mills and factories. The town saw rapid growth and development in the post-war period. Major employers today include federal agencies, technology firms, higher education institutions, and retail centers.
