Downers Grove is a village located mostly in DuPage County, Illinois with a small section in Cook County. As of the 2020 census, Downers Grove has a population of 47,315 making it one of the larger suburbs of Chicago.

History

Downers Grove was founded in 1832 by Pierce Downer who traveled from New York to establish a new settlement. The town was originally called Downer's Grove after its founder. It became incorporated as Downers Grove in 1873. The community was centered around agriculture initially, but later transitioned to a commuter town with the arrival of railroad service.
