Bolingbrook is a large suburban city located in Will County, Illinois, approximately 30 miles southwest of Chicago. History

The history of Bolingbrook dates back to the 1830s, when New Englanders first settled in the area. The Galena and Chicago Union Railroad was built through modern-day Bolingbrook in the late 1840s, establishing a depot in what would become downtown Bolingbrook. In 1965, the villages of Bolingbrook and neighboring Woodridge voted to incorporate as cities. Since then, Bolingbrook experienced rapid growth, with its population nearly quadrupling between 1970 and 1990. The Bolingbrook Historical Society works to preserve and share the history of the Bolingbrook area.

As of the 2020 census, Bolingbrook had a population of 75,427, making it the 17th largest municipality in Illinois. Bolingbrook saw rapid population growth in the later decades of the 20th century. After incorporating as a city in 1965 with a population around 1,600, Bolingbrook's population had grown to 36,071 by 1990 and quadrupled from there to reach 73,386 by 2010. Population growth has since slowed, with a modest increase of 2.8% between 2010 and 2020.
