With a population of over 71,000 residents, Riverview, Florida is a census-designated place in Hillsborough County located east of Tampa along the Alafia River. History

The Riverview area was first settled in the mid-1800s by thefew pioneering homesteading families. They were drawn by the bountiful crops that could be harvested along the Alafia River basin. In 1884, an enterprising businessman named William Saunders opened a general store in the community, which soon became a gathering place for local farmers. Over time, other commercial establishments sprung up around Saunders' store, creating a small downtown area along US Highway 301.

In the 1950s, Riverview began to expand rapidly as Tampa's population boomed. New homes, schools, churches and businesses were constructed to serve the influx of new residents.
