Lauderdale Lakes, often referred to as just Lauderdale Lakes, is a city in Broward County, Florida, United States. As of the 2010 United States Census, the city's population was 32,593. It is part of the Miami–Fort Lauderdale–West Palm Beach Metropolitan Statistical Area, which was home to 5,564,635 people in 2010.

History

Lauderdale Lakes was incorporated on June 22, 1961. The city's early population consisted largely of winter vacationers from the Northeast and Midwest regions of the U.S. and Canada. The city experienced rapid growth in the 1970s as many African American families relocated from nearby neighborhoods such as Franklin Park, Sunrise and Plantation.

Lauderdale Lakes is located at 26°10′42′′N 80°13′6′′W. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 3.80 square miles (9.84 km2), of which 3.75 square miles (9.71 km2) is land and 0.05 square miles (0.13 km2) (1.31%) is water.

Lauderdale Lakes has a tropical monsoon climate with hot humid summers and warm, dry winters. From June to September, the average rainfall is approximately 7 inches per month. The driest months are typically January and February.

As of the 2010 census, there were 32,593 people, 12,181 households, and 8,434 families residing in the city. The population density was 8,695.5 inhabitants per square mile (3,353.2/km2).
