Population

According to the Wikipedia page on Jupiter, Florida, the town had a population of 62,707 at the 2020 census. The town's population has grown rapidly in recent decades, more than tripling in size since 1980 when the population was 18,652.

History

The area where Jupiter now sits was originally settled by the Jeaga and Ais Native American tribes. The Spanish later established missions in the area. A fort was built in the area in the 1760s during the French and Indian War. The Jupiter Inlet, located near Jupiter, was an important provisioning spot for ships sailing between the Caribbean and Europe.

Modern settlement of Jupiter began in the late 1800s. The town was originally named for the H.M.S. Jupiter, a ship that wrecked near the Jupiter Inlet in the 1840s. Early settlers relied on fishing, logging and farming. In 1925, the Florida East Coast Railway expanded service to Jupiter, leading to further growth.
