Hallandale Beach is a city located in Broward County, Florida. As of the 2020 census, the population of Hallandale Beach was 37,113 residents, making it the 36th largest city in Florida.

History

Hallandale Beach has its origins in the late 19th century as a farming community. Swedish immigrants were among the first settlers to the area, growing tomatoes, green beans, squash and other vegetables. The name "Hallandale" comes from Halland province in Sweden.

In the early 20th century, the community began to develop as a beach resort. Wealthy northerners traveled by train and steamship to vacation in Hallandale during the winter months. Hotels, casinos, and nightclubs began operating in the city to entertain tourists.

Hallandale Beach was officially incorporated as a city in 1927. The city continued to grow in popularity as a tourist destination in the mid-20th century. After World War II, many permanent residents relocated to Hallandale Beach, increasing the year-round population.

Today, tourism remains an important industry for Hallandale Beach. However, the city also has significant healthcare, retail, and financial services sectors contributing to its economy.
