Gainsville is a city located in Alachua County in northern Florida, United States. As of the 2020 census, the population of Gainsville was 278,224 making it the largest city in the county. History

Gainsville was founded in 1853 and was named after General Edmund P. Gaines, an American military officer during the Seminole Wars.
