Egypt Lake Leto is a census-designated place in Hillsborough County, Florida, United States. The population was 35,882 at the 2010 census.

History

Egypt Lake Leto was established in the 1950s as a residential area within unincorporated Hillsborough County. The community takes its name from the nearby lakes, Egypt Lake and Lake Leto. Development accelerated in the area following the opening of the nearby Tampa International Airport in the 1970s.

Population

According to the 2010 U.S. Census, Egypt Lake Leto had a population of 35,882. The racial and ethnic composition was 66.7% White, 18.0% African American, 0.4% Native American, 5.0% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 6.0% from other races, and 3.9% from two or more races. Hispanics or Latinos of any race made up 17.4% of the population.

Economy

Egypt Lake Leto is primarily a residential suburb, but some notable companies are headquartered in the CDP. Bloomin' Brands, which owns Outback Steakhouse, Carrabba's Italian Grill, and other restaurant chains, is based in Egypt Lake Leto. Other major employers include Transamerica, Wyndham Destinations, and Synchrony Financial Services. According to the Hillsborough County Economic Development department, the top industries in the county are finance, insurance, real estate, professional services, health care, construction, and education.

Leto High School

One of the most notable landmarks in Egypt Lake Leto is Leto High School, located at 4204 Central Ave, Tampa, FL 33603. Leto's mascot is the Falcon. The school opened in 1973 and has about 2,000 students enrolled currently. Leto High School is part of the Hillsborough County Public Schools system.

Egypt Lake Park

Another popular local landmark is Egypt Lake Park, located at 3443 Egypt Lake Dr, Tampa, FL 33614. The park encompasses over 180 acres and features hiking trails, playgrounds, a dog park, and opportunities for fishing, boating and wildlife viewing. There are also picnic shelters available for reservation.
