Westminster is a home rule municipality located in Adams and Jefferson counties in the U.S. state of Colorado. As of the 2020 census, the population of Westminster was 112,426 making it the 9th most populous city in Colorado. The city is a part of the Denver-Aurora-Lakewood, CO Metropolitan Statistical Area.

History

Westminster was founded in 1858 as a Presbyterian temperance colony by Columbus Christopher Hilliard. It was named in honor of Westminster University, which is now known as Westminster College in New Wilmington, Pennsylvania. Geography and Climate

Westminster is located at 39°53′N 105°03′W (39.882728, -105.054487). It has a total area of 32.9 square miles. Westminster has a semi-arid climate with hot summers and mild, dry winters. The highest recorded temperature was 105°F in 2005 and the lowest recorded temperature was -24°F in 1989.

Demographics

As of the 2020 census, there were 112,426 people and 38,765 households in Westminster. The racial makeup of the city was 73.3% White, 4.5% African American, 1.2% Native American, 8.5% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, and 8.3% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 31.3% of the population.

The median age was 35 years. 24.7% of residents were under the age of 18; 9% were between the ages of 18 and 24; 31.7% were from 25 to 44; 25.1% were from 45 to 64; and 9.4% were 65 years of age or older. The gender makeup of the city was 50.2% male and 49.8% female.
