Loveland is a city located in Larimer County, Colorado. With a population of approximately 77,446 as of 2021, it is the 9th most populous city in Colorado.

History

Loveland was founded in 1866 along the banks of the Big Thompson River. The city was named after William A.H. Loveland, the president of the Colorado Central Railroad. The railroad helped establish Loveland as an agricultural hub in northern Colorado.

In 1877, Loveland was incorporated with a population of 526. The city grew slowly but steadily over the next few decades. In 1900, Loveland's population reached 1,741. By 1950, the population had grown to 5,526.

Since the mid-20th century, Loveland has experienced substantial growth. The establishment of manufacturing plants and high-tech companies helped diversify Loveland's economy beyond agriculture. Residential suburbs were constructed around the city's core. Loveland's population reached 50,608 by 2000.
