History

Vacaville was originally home to the Patwin Native Americans. In 1842, Juan Manuel Vaca arrived in the area and was granted the 16,000 acre Vaca Rancho land grant. In 1850, Vaca sold the land to William McDaniel who founded the town of Vacaville in 1855. The city was incorporated in 1892. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, fruit orchards and farms dominated the landscape of Vacaville. After World War II, the city grew rapidly as suburban development expanded.
