Turlock is a city in Stanislaus County in California's Central Valley. As of the 2020 census, Turlock had a population of 74,971, making it the second-largest city in Stanislaus County after Modesto.

History

Turlock was founded in 1871 by John W. Mitchell and named after Turlough in County Mayo, Ireland. The city was incorporated in 1908. Agriculture and dairy farming fueled early growth in Turlock, along with the construction of the Southern Pacific Railroad.
