History

Rosemead has a rich history dating back to the indigenous Tongva people who lived in the area for thousands of years. The arrival of the Spanish missionaries marked the beginning of the area's transition into becoming part of the growing city of Los Angeles.

Rosemead was incorporated as a city in 1959. The name Rosemead comes from the founder Leonard J. Rose, who combined his name with "mead," which was a reference to the honey that was once plentiful in the area. Rosemead experienced significant suburban growth in the post-World War II period.
