History

The first inhabitants of the Rancho Cordova area were the Nisenan tribe of Native Americans. In the early 19th century, the land that now makes up Rancho Cordova was divided between three Mexican land grants: Rancho Murieta, Rancho Rio de los Americanos, and Rancho Johnson (Source: City of Rancho Cordova). In 1856, the land was purchased by A.M. Winn and L.A. Booth for farming and cattle grazing. The town began to develop more in the 20th century. Rancho Cordova incorporated as a city in 2003.
