History of La Pleasanton

La Pleasanton has a long history dating back to the indigenous Ohlone people who originally inhabited the area. In the 1800s, La Pleasanton was part of the Rancho Valle de San José land grant. In 1858, John W. Kottinger and George Neal acquired the land and founded a town originally named Alisal. In 1869, the name was changed to Pleasanton after Civil War General Alfred Pleasonton.
