History

Pittsburg originated as a railroad town in the late 1800s as a station stop along the railroad between Sacramento and Oakland. The town was named for Pittsburgh, PA due to the shared involvement in coal and steel between Pittsburgh industrialist William Peterman's California holdings in New York of the Pacific Coal and Iron Company.
