Moreno Valley is a city located in Riverside County, California. With a population of over 200,000 as of 2019, it is the second largest city in Riverside County after the city of Riverside.

History

The Moreno Valley area was first inhabited by Native American tribes including the Serrano and Cahuilla tribes. The first European settlers arrived in the 1880s, but development was limited until the 1980s when the population rapidly grew. According to the 2019 Census estimates, Moreno Valley has a population of 212,175 residents. It has grown significantly in recent decades. In 1980, the population was just over 18,000 residents. Some of Moreno Valley's rapid growth can be attributed to new housing developments and affordable home prices that attracted families and commuters to Riverside County. The city features a diverse population with Latino/Hispanic residents making up 56% of the population, White 26%, African American 25%, and Asian/Pacific Islander 7% as of the 2010 Census.
