History

The city was named after George and Ada Morgan's hometown of Glendora, New Jersey and incorporated in 1911. The downtown Glendora Village street layout was designed by Fred Merrill. The city has a long history dating back to the indigenous Tongva people and later Spanish missionaries. Rubel Castle

One unique Glendora landmark is Rubel Castle, located at 844 W. Live Oak Ave, Glendora, CA 91741. Rubel Castle is a folk art castle created entirely of scrap steel, rocks, bedsprings, and other found objects. Construction began in 1959 by Michael Rubel and is still a work in progress. Tours of Rubel Castle are available.

Glendora Bougainvillea

Glendora is known for its vibrant bougainvillea plants that bloom in the spring and summer. Many of these plants are located downtown along Glendora Ave and surrounding streets. The bougainvillea and other landscaping create an attractive environment in the downtown village area.
