History

Fountain Valley was originally inhabited by the Tongva Native American people. European settlement of the area began when Manuel Nieto was granted the Spanish land concession Rancho Los Nietos in 1834. Control of the land transferred between Spain, Mexico, and the United States throughout the 19th century. The city of Fountain Valley was incorporated on June 13, 1957.
