History

The area that is now Diamond Bar was originally inhabited by the Tongva Native American tribe. In the 19th century, the area became part of two Spanish land grants - Rancho Los Nogales and Rancho Santa Anita. The land was used mainly for cattle ranching well into the 20th century.

The Diamond Bar name has its origins in the diamond over a bar branding used by the Transamerica Corporation to identify its ranch properties. Transamerica acquired the land that would later become Diamond Bar in the 1950s. In the 1960s, Transamerica began developing the land for residential and commercial use, including building what is now Diamond Bar Golf Course. The master plan was for a four community town incorporating Diamond Bar, Standard Township, Golden Springs, and Diamond Point Estates.

By the 1980s, the area had greatly increased in population but still lacked local governance and services. Diamond Bar incorporated as a city in April 1989 to provide local services and political representation for the growing communities. Since incorporation, the city has continued to grow in population and development.
