Apple Valley is a town located in the Victor Valley of San Bernardino County, California. As of the 2020 census, Apple Valley had a population of 74,967 making it one of the largest towns in California.

History

Apple Valley was incorporated on November 14, 1988. It was one of the final municipalities in California to incorporate. According to the Town of Apple Valley website, the town gets its name from John F. Appleton who settled in the area in the late 1860s and planted apple trees. The apple orchards thrived in the area due to the suitable climate.

The economy of Apple Valley was historically driven by agriculture and mining. In the 1950s, the town began to grow rapidly as the construction of the Interstate 15 freeway brought new people and businesses to the High Desert area of Southern California.
