Antioch is a city located in Contra Costa County in the U.S. state of California. As of 2019, Antioch had an estimated population of 111,502, making it the second largest city in Contra Costa County. The city is located along the San Joaquin-Sacramento River Delta and situated about 45 miles east of San Francisco.

History of Antioch

Antioch has a long and rich history. The city was founded in 1850 by two brothers who were enticed by the area's beauty and founded what was then called Marsh Landing. In 1852, the city was renamed Antioch after the ancient Syrian city where the followers of Jesus were first called Christians. Antioch thrived in the late 1800s as a shipping and rail center transporting goods from the San Joaquin River to the larger San Francisco Bay Area.
