Antelope, California is a census-designated place in Sacramento County. According to the Wikipedia page for Antelope, it had a population of 45,770 residents as of 2010. The community lies outside of the city limits of Sacramento and is part of the Sacramento–Arden-Arcade–Roseville Metropolitan Statistical Area.

History

The first people to live in Antelope were the Nisenan Maidu tribe. In 1848, John Sutter established the first European settlement in the Sacramento area with Sutter's Fort. Many pioneers heading to the gold fields in the Sierra Nevada mountains passed through the valley in the Antelope area. In the 1860s, the Central Pacific Railroad established a railroad siding named Antelope Station in the community. A village grew up around the railroad station and was originally named Antelope Station. The name eventually evolved to just Antelope.

According to the 2010 US Census, the population of Antelope was 45,770. The racial makeup was 59.5% White, 13.0% African American, 1.2% Native American, 12.1% Asian, 0.8% Pacific Islander, and 8.2% from other races. 24.8% of the population identified as Hispanic or Latino.

The median household income was $60,844 and 11.7% of the population lived below the poverty line. Antelope had 17,280 housing units with an average home value of $281,800 according to the census data.
