With a population of 50,660 as of 2022, Queen Creek is a rapidly growing city located within Maricopa and Pinal counties in Arizona. Once a small rural farming town, Queen Creek has transformed into a booming Phoenix suburb with new housing developments, retail complexes, recreation amenities, and more attracting families and businesses alike.

History

Queen Creek was founded in 1882 by Mary Ellsworth and Charles Queen, homesteaders who had migrated from Canada. They built a cabin along the wash now known as Queen Creek, giving the town its name. Queen Creek began as a small farming community supported by the hay, cotton and cattle industries. In the 1920s, Queen Creek Dam was built, providing a reliable water supply that further enabled agriculture and population growth.

Over the decades, Queen Creek remained relatively isolated until the 1990s and 2000s when massive population growth in the Phoenix metropolitan area reached the town's borders. Farmland was sold to make way for residential and commercial development, quickly transitioning Queen Creek into a suburban community. Today, while agriculture remains an important part of the local economy and history, Queen Creek is now better known for its master-planned neighborhoods, recreation opportunities like the Queen Creek Olive Mill, and abundant shopping centers.
