History

Buckeye was founded in 1888 and originally named "Sidney," after the town founder Henry W. Sanford's hometown of Sidney, Ohio. The town was renamed Buckeye in 1910 in reference to the abundant buckeye trees that grow in Arizona. Buckeye was incorporated as a town in 1929 and as a city in 2014 as its population expanded.
