Apache Junction is a city located primarily in Pinal County, with a small portion in Maricopa County, in the U.S. state of Arizona. The area where Apache Junction sits today was home to prehistoric indigenous peoples including the Hohokam and later the Pima and Apache tribes. The Apache Junction post office opened in 1890. In the 1920s, the Apache Trail was completed, connecting Apache Junction to the Roosevelt Dam. Population growth accelerated in the 1950s and 1960s. Apache Junction was incorporated as a city in 1978.
