Tucson is a city located in Pima County in the state of Arizona. As of the 2020 census, the population of Tucson was 548,073, making it the second most populated city in Arizona after Phoenix. Tucson serves as the county seat of Pima County.

History

Tucson was founded as a military fort by the Spanish in 1775. The original name was Post of San Agustín del Tucson. The area was part of Mexico until 1853 when the Gadsden Purchase made Southern Arizona part of the United States. Tucson was incorporated as a town in 1877 and then incorporated as a city in 1887.
