History

San Ramon’s origins go back to Mexican land grants in the 19th century. It was originally part of Rancho San Ramon land grant made to Ygnacio Sibrian. The first post office opened in 1857. San Ramon grew slowly over the decades, accelerating in the 1970s with continued residential development. It incorporated as a city in 1983.
