Quincy is a city in Norfolk County, Massachusetts. As of the 2020 census, Quincy had a population of 94,572 people, making it the 8th largest city in Massachusetts.

According to the 2020 census, Quincy has a population of 94,572 residents. Quincy is part of the Greater Boston metropolitan area. The racial makeup of the city is 66.2% White, 19.2% Asian, 7.7% Black or African American, 0.1% Native American, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 2.2% from other races, and 4.5% from two or more races. Hispanics and Latinos of any race make up 6.4% of the population.

Quincy has attracted immigrants from around the world, particularly Asian immigrants. In 2010 Quincy had the highest proportion of Asian Americans in Massachusetts, at over 25% of the population. The Asian American subgroups with large populations in Quincy include Chinese Americans and Vietnamese Americans.

Quincy has a fairly young population compared to other cities in Massachusetts. The median age is 39.2 years old. 22.7% of the population is under 18 years old, and 13.5% of the population is 65 years and over.

Quincy has a fairly even split between males and females. As of the 2010 census, there were 47,311 males (48.8% of the population) and 49,621 females (51.2% of the total population).

History of Quincy

Quincy was first settled in 1625 and was incorporated as a separate town in 1792. It was named after Colonel John Quincy, grandfather of President John Quincy Adams.

In the 18th and 19th centuries, Quincy was an important shipping and granite quarrying center. The city thrived as a major granite and shipbuilding center until the Great Depression.

Quincy has a rich political history. It is the birthplace of two U.S. presidents – John Adams and his son John Quincy Adams. Quincy was also home to many abolitionists and social reformers in the 19th century.

In the 20th century, Quincy transformed into a largely residential community. It underwent massive urban renewal projects in the 1950s and 60s. Quincy is now considered part of Greater Boston’s South Shore region and is an attractive residential community with revitalized urban centers.
