With a population of 486,051 as of 2020, Omaha is the largest city in the state of Nebraska and the county seat of Douglas County. Nicknamed the “Gateway to the West”, Omaha is located on the Missouri River and has a long history as a transportation hub and center of trade.
History
Omaha was founded in 1854 by settlers from neighboring Council Bluffs, Iowa. It was named after the Omaha Native American tribe that inhabited the area. Omaha is home to several professional and college sports teams, most notably:
