Las Vegas is the most populous city in the state of Nevada, United States. According to the 2020 census, the city has a population of 641,903 people. Las Vegas is located within Clark County and serves as the county seat.
History
Las Vegas was founded in 1905 when 110 acres of land adjacent to the Union Pacific Railroad tracks were auctioned. The city was incorporated in 1911. The city grew slowly until 1931 when Nevada legalized casino gambling. This led to the construction of many iconic casino-hotels along Las Vegas Boulevard such as the Flamingo, Sahara, Dunes, and Stardust.
