Population
Eugene is the second largest city in Oregon after Portland. According to the Wikipedia page for Eugene, the city has an estimated population of 174,058 as of 2021. Eugene is the county seat of Lane County and is home to the University of Oregon.
The city has seen steady population growth over the past several decades. In 1970, Eugene’s population was only around 100,000. Growth accelerated in the 1990s and 2000s. The influx of new residents has led to expansion of Eugene’s city limits and suburbs.

Eugene’s economy rebounded strongly from the 2008 recession, buoyed by growth in health services, education, and tourism. The city’s unemployment rate was 3.4% as of June 2022, lower than the national average.

Sports
Eugene is home to the University of Oregon Ducks. The Ducks compete in the Pac-12 conference with venues on campus and around town.
