The town has grown significantly in recent decades. Back in 1980, the population was just under 30,000 residents. Growth has been steady ever since, with the population topping 100,000 for the first time in 2010.

Davie is home to several professional sports teams and venues. The most notable is the Miami Dolphins football team which plays at Hard Rock Stadium located in Davie. The stadium can seat over 65,000 fans and also hosts the Orange Bowl NCAA Football game.

In addition, the Miami Marlins baseball team trains at the Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium complex in Davie each spring. The stadium hosts Spring Training as well as Minor League Baseball games.

On the collegiate level, both Florida Atlantic University and Nova Southeastern University have NCAA athletic programs. FAU competes in Division 1 while Nova competes in Division 2.
