Boise City is the capital and most populous city in the state of Idaho. With its low cost of living, vibrant downtown, and access to outdoor recreation, Boise has become one of the fastest growing cities in the United States.

According to the latest population estimates, Boise City has a population of 226,570 residents, making it the 96th largest city in the nation. The Boise metropolitan statistical area, which encompasses the city and surrounding areas, has an estimated population of 730,426.

Boise City has experienced rapid growth over the last few decades. Since the 1990 census, the city’s population has increased by over 80%. Migration from other states like California, as well as immigration, have fueled this growth.

Economy

Some of the largest private employers in Boise City include Micron Technology (computer memory and storage), Hewlett Packard (printers and IT services), Clearwater Analytics (investment management software), and WinCo Foods (supermarket retailer).

As the state capital, government administration is also a major employer. The City of Boise, Ada County government, and Public School District are among the largest government jobs.

The agricultural industry maintains a strong presence in the Boise area as well. Major agricultural operations include the JR Simplot Company (potatoes and fertilizer) and Amalgamated Sugar Company.

Tourism

Some of the most famous landmarks in Boise include:
