Hialeah is a city located in Miami-Dade County in the U.S. state of Florida. As of 2022, Hialeah has an estimated population of 238,942 residents, making it the sixth-largest city in Florida. Hialeah forms part of the Miami metropolitan area, which was home to over 6 million people as of the 2020 census.

History of Hialeah

Hialeah was founded in the early 1920s. The city was developed by Glenn Curtiss and James Bright, who had acquired a 600-acre tract of land to create a community to house the employees of the nearby Miami airport and also as a place for winter vacationing.

The name “Hialeah” was derived from Muskogee language words “Hiyiha” meaning “pretty prairie” and “li” meaning “village”. It refers to the natural beauty of the prairie land found in the area.
