Population
Carmel is a city located just north of Indianapolis in Hamilton County, Indiana. According to the Wikipedia page for Carmel, its population was estimated to be 97,490 as of 2021, making it the third largest city in Indiana.
Carmel has seen rapid population growth over the past few decades. In 1970, the population was just 18,272. By 1990 it had grown to 25,380, and then nearly doubled to 43,450 by 2000 as the city expanded. Much of this growth came from annexation of surrounding areas as well as new housing and business development.
The racial makeup of Carmel is predominantly white, with Asian, Hispanic/Latino, Black/African American, and other races each representing less than 10% of the total population according to census data. The city has a fairly affluent and educated population compared to state and national averages.

Carmel has several notable landmarks and attractions that draw tourists and visitors:
- The Monon Greenway – A popular walking/biking path that runs through the heart of Carmel.
- Carmel Arts & Design District – Home to over 200 businesses including art galleries, restaurants, antique shops, and boutiques.
- Carmel City Center – A large outdoor complex with dining, shopping, entertainment, and art installations.

Sports
Carmel is home to several high school athletic programs that have achieved statewide and national success. The Carmel High School girls swimming team has won over 30 straight state championships. The Carmel High School marching band has also won multiple state titles.
In club sports, the Carmel Pups Baseball program has numerous state championship titles and has sent players to the MLB. The Carmel United Soccer Club is also recognized as one of the top programs in the state.
